I love all things creative, colorful and DIY. It is just the way my brain is wired. I can’t add 2 + 2 to save my life, but can help you affordably decorate your home in a style that you will love. My first job after graduating from The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC was in retail display. It was there that I honed my skills on how to take a mish-match of items in a prop room and transform them into stunning displays with no budget at all. Shoppers used to ask me how I created everything and I fondly remember writing directions down for them on their shopping bags. When my husband and I bought our first home we didn’t have a big budget so I used my display tricks to decorate it. That led me to writing a decorating book all about it, called Instant Decorating back in the 1990s.
Through the publication of my book, I became a regular guest on Lifetime Television’s Our Home show where I demonstrated many DIY decorating projects that used fabric, paint, and odds and ends. This opened up the opportunity for me to contribute to lots of decorating books, magazines, and newspapers. I also became a design consultant to help homeowners make the best choices when it comes to decorating their home.
My book is no longer in print, but my blog InMyOwnStyle.com is where I continue to share my ideas, step-by-step projects, creative tricks and tips, and what I have found works for me—all budget friendly and do-able by anyone. With a bit of guidance, ingenuity, and resourcefulness I think anyone can create a home they will love.
When I am not creating or designing, I am either at the beach, out thrifting, hiking, biking or on my Pilates Reformer. I am happily married and the mom of two grown daughters who are the best two DIY projects I ever made.
